What is a cake smash?

Cake smash has become very popular as a fun way of celebrating a child's first birthday. Basically, put a cake in front of your young child, let them go crazy and photograph the resulting carnage!

How does it work?

Sessions normally last about an hour and usually take place in my little studio – this saves you making a mess of your house! (I can set a cake smash up at your home if you prefer though.)

I take a set of pictures before things get messy and then a collection of pictures during the cake smash.

Do you provide the cake?

You will need to provide the cake for the session, for health and safety reasons I can't provide them (plus it lets you make things a bit more personal with your own choice of cake).

Is the cake smash for just one child?

Usually cake smashes are for just one child – but I can set up a cake smash session for twins. Introducing an older/younger sibling often doesnt work too well.

Is it OK to bring some different outfits?

We can take some portrait pictures of your baby in a seperate outfit before things start to get messy – feel free to bring props (such as their favourite toy) along for this.

Can we get some parent/child portraits as well?

The cake smash session doesn't include parent and child portraits, I find that we get the best out of the session if we focus on just the cake smash itself.

Can we bring the whole family?

It's best to have just one or two people around during the cake smash so your child isn't distracted and can focus on pulverising the cake!

How much will it cost?

The total cost will depend on the prints you want – but generally most people choose to invest around £100 to £200 on a cake smash. The cost of the session itself is just £45, which is payable up-front to secure the date. Prints and digital files can then be purchased separately at very reasonable and competitive prices.

Print and digital file prices

Once you have received your proof images, you can choose to purchase digital files. Each picture will be carefully edited and provided on a download link for you to save to your phone/device.

Prints.

Once you have selected which images you would like as digital files, you can then choose to receive any of them as prints. Most sizes are available, but different sizes will require different crops on the image (I will provide a preview of how the crop will look).

Prices start from about £10 per print (which is in addition to the price of the digital version of the image) – I can provide a quote for the prints you require.
